Brest freelance journalists appeal to Supreme Court of Belarus

It took freelance journalists from Brest Ales Lyauchuk and Milana Kharytonava more than half a year to go through all the courts in Belarus and to make an appeal to the Supreme Court.

Recall that the journalists were brutally arrested in Kobryn on March 18, while covering a social parasites’ protest. Later, the Kobryn court sentenced journalists to a fine of more than $ 1,000.

The journalists appealed the detention not only in the Brest regional court, but also with the Interior Ministry, the Investigative Committee, the Prosecutor’s Office at different levels.

Everywhere they were surprised by the decision of the authorities who reviewed their appeals.

Journalists do not have illusions about the decision of the Supreme Court, which they asked to dismiss the administrative case. They also intend to appeal to the UN Human Rights Committee.
