Bones and skulls found at construction site in Hrodna

Human remains were found near the residence of the Orthodox bishop on the banks of Haradnichanka.

Pictures of skulls were sent to belsat.eu by a reader who explained that he had noticed the remains a couple of days before. Unfortunately, when our journalists got to the place, the skull was gone, but next to the pit were scattered some bones.

According to the historian Yan Lyalevich, they could be an “echo” of the graves at the Orthodox Church of St. Mikola, which had been here since the Middle Ages. In the middle of the XVIII century only a cross and cemetery remained of the church.

“Later, in the XIX century there was a church of John the Baptist at the Bishops’ farmstead (Walicki Palace), continues the historian. It is clearly visible in the drawings by Napoleon Orda. There could have been made some burials nearby.”

It is quite possible that the builders deliberately concealed these findings to not slow down work due to the presence of policemen or archaeologists.
