Bolivar and loan: Venezuela’s leader to visit Belarus, Russia


Nicolas Maduro will make an official visit to Minsk on Thursday.

The Venezuelan president will take part in the opening ceremony of a Simon Bolivar monument in the Simon Bolivar public garden in Minsk, state-run news agency BelTA reports with reference to the embasy of Venezuela.

By the moment, there has been no information about Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s meeting with his Venezuelan counterpart on the presidential website.

Before arriving in Belarus, Nicolas Maduro will visit Russia and take part in Russian Energy Week 2017. The Venezuelan leader is expected to meet with Vladimir Putin, pro-Kremlin news agency ria.ru reports. The presidents are highly likely to discuss the loan restructuring issue.

Over the past years, Venezuela has been undergoing a deep social and political crisis; the country is financially squeezed as well.
