Beware, West-2017 in progress: Barysau residents warned against visiting training ground

New ads have recently appeared at bus stops of the Belarusian town of Barysau.

They say that the military exercise Zapad-2017 will take place at the training ground ‘Barysauski’ and warn against entering it.

The training ground is a restricted area in the forest, but locals go there to barbecue and pick mushrooms and berries .

Moreover, the area is not fenced. The training ground is separated from the town by the ring road, ex-press.by reports.

On one side of the road there are newly-built multistoreyed buildings while tankmen and motorized infantry drill on the other.

Between the residential area and the training ground there are a few ground unregulated pedestrian crossings marked with appropriate traffic signs. However, if a person gets there for the first time, they may be misleaded and get in the wrong place.

On September 1, Russian soldiers detained human rights activist Natallya Haryachka not far from Barysau and delivered her to the police. She came to visit his son who was conscripted into the Belarusian army. The woman who was accused of using foul language had to spend three days in jail.

In an interview with Belsat TV Haryachka said that the Russians stated they had taken part in the military actions in Donbas.

“They told me that the military exercise had already begun,” she stressed.
