Belsat journalists to face trial today

On September 14, journalists who cooperate with Belsat will face trial.

Zmitser Kazakevich will be tried in Vitsebsk. He is being charged with offence under Article 23.34 of the Administrative Code — violation of the procedure for organizing or holding mass events. Kazakevich was detained on September 11.

Andrei Tolchyn and Larysa Shchyrakova will be tried in Homiel, both were detained on September 11.

On September 15, there will be trials of our colleagues, journalist Katsyaryna Andreyeva and cameraman Maksim Kalitouski. They were detained on September 12. Both are charged with offence under Articles 22.9 and 23.4 of the Administrative Code – “Violation of the law on mass media” and “Disobedience to police officers”.

Yesterday, September 13, freelancers working with Belsat Artsyom Lyava and Tatsyana Harhalyk were detained. Both were later released. No protocol was filed on Lyava, although his working equipment and car were taken away. A protocol was drawn up on Harhalyk under Article 23.34 of the Administrative Code.

On September 13, journalists from other publications were also detained, in particular photographers Alyaksandr Vasyukovich and Ulad Hrydzin, as well as journalist Yahor Kalyahin. They spent the night at the remand center on Akrestsina Street.
