Belsat journalists spend over 400 days in jail


This year, Belsat journalists spent over 400 days in prison.

Ivan Kurakevich spent fifteen days in Baranavichy jail for covering the march of pensioners in Minsk. But he was actually convicted of allegedly participating in an unauthorized action. He told us about the conditions of detention immediately after his release.

On the same day, another colleague of ours was convicted in Pastavy for the story about the village of Drazdy, judge Natallya Maksimovich fined journalist Dzmitry Lupach 47 basic units. This is the largest fine he received in the courts: 1,269 rubles.

Now two Belsat journalists remain behind bars in Zhodzina – Katsyaryna Andreyeva and Darya Chultsova. They are accused of organizing and preparing actions that grossly violate public order.

This year, Belsat journalists have spent more than 400 days behind bars.
