Belarusians of Podlasie spoke in support of 'Belsat'

The regional office of the Polish state television ‘TVP Białystok’ has aired a story about Belsat TV.

The ‘Belarusian Week’ (‘Białoruski tydzień’) spoke about the role of ‘Belsat’ in Belarus and the Belarusian-Polish borderland.

Jerzy Kalina, head of the Bialystok editor’s office of ‘Belsat’ notedn the importance of the single Belarusian-language television for Belarusian journalism.

“When we started working, people did not know which side of the camera to stand at. Thus appeared the TV magazine “Reporter”, which we make in Bialystok. I think that over the 9 years, this editor’s office has seen about a hundred journalists who became professionals thanks to “Belsat TV”. “Belsat” has made a significant contribution to the Belarusian documentary filmmaking. If “Belsat” disappears, all these people will remain in the Belarusian journalistic space,” said Jerzy Kalina.

According to Mr Kalina, “Belsat” is also an active participant in the cultural life. “Belsat” promotes Belarusian literature, cinema and theater.

“Not everyone knows that thanks to “Belsat” classic art cinema and documentaries were translated into Belarusian. I do not know who in Belarus has such a large video archive in Belarusian,” says Jerzy Kalina.
