Maryia Mamashuk wins third silver medal in Rio

European champion in the category up to 63 kilograms, Maryia Mamashuk has become a silver medalist at the Olympics. In the final, the representative of Homiel wrestled with Japanese Risako Kawai. Unfortunately, the Belarusian did not win.

In the semifinals of the Olympic freestyle wrestling in the weight category up to 63 kg Mamashuk defefated an American wrestler of Russian origin Yelena Pirozhkova – 3: 2.

Belarusian Vasilisa Marzalyuk in the weight category up to 75 kg could not get into the finals and fought for the bronze with a Chinese Zhang Fenlgiu and also lost. In the semifinals, she lost to the Canadian Erica Wiebe – 0:3.

“To be honest, I was more worried by the defeat in the semi-finals from the Canadians girl than in the match for the bronze medal. I couldn’t do much with the Chinese girl, but in the semi-final there was a chance. However, in my view, the wrong tactics for fighting with Erica Wiebe did not allow me to defeat her. It is a pity that the fourth place is, perhaps, the most annoying one in any tournament, but I will get myself together,” said the Belarusian athlete after the fight.

On August 18, friends, relatives, and Sports Minister Alyaksandr Shamko greeted at the Minsk-2 airport the athletes who had finished their competitions in Rio.
