A detailed ID-card sample will be shown already this year.
The cost of the card will be one basic value, which today is 24.5 Belarusian rubles. The government plans to use the document inside the country, and for going abroad it will be necessary to change the usual passport for a biometric one.
Such a passport will allow Belarusians to cross the border faster and will bring closer the facilitation of the visa regime with the Schengen countries.
The journalists learned about the change from Alyaksei Byahun, the head of the Citizenship and Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. ID-cards are to become a full-fledged means of identification, and in the future they will replace all citizen’s identity cards, including, for example, driving licenses. You can also make payments via the ID-card.
Last year, Minister of Communications Syarhei Papkou promised that the system will be launched on July 1, but the development was delayed, the reasons were not reported.
Such ID-cards function in the European Union and some post-Soviet countries, two years ago Ukraine introduced this system of documents.
