Belarusians illegally store weapons to raise self-esteem

This was stated by the representative of the Investigative Committee of the Hrodna region Syarhei Sharshanevich.

“Overview of criminal cases shows that most citizens keep weapons and ammunition for the purpose of self-assertion, to raise self-esteem, which in turn was inspired by Western trends. They believe that it adds to their strength and courage, helps to overcome fears,” says a representative of the Investigative Committee for the Hrodna region.

Rifle fire weapon is mainly used by Hrodna residents for the poaching of wild animals, Syarhei Sharshanevich told Interfax-Zapad on February 17.

“Forensic ballistic examinations carried out in the framework of criminal investigations indicate that the weapons seized from citizens, ammunition and explosives are mainly left to them after the dead relatives, or are found in the places of fighting from the last century,” said the representative of the Investigative Committee.

According to Sharshanevich, majority of Hrodna citizens do get rid of the weapons and ammunition, as voluntary surrender exempts them from criminal liability.
