Belarusian runaway businessman Averyanau newly charged

Belarusian law enforcement agencies have extended charges against businessman Yury Averyanau, whose extradition from Germany is currently sought by Minsk, TUT.BY learned from the official representative of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Belarus Dzmitry Bryliou.

“The extradition procedure continues. We are in close contact with the German side. All documents that we have been requested, we have filed. Also, the scope of the accusation [of Mr Averyanau] was recently expanded. In addition to tax evasion, he is now accused of official authority abuse,” said Bryliou.

In 2017, the Investigation Committee launched a criminal case against Yury Averyanau, as well as against a number of heads of business entities in connection with tax evasion. Soon, the security forces detained six top managers of Averyanau. The businessman himself was put on the international wanted list.

In January 2018, Averyanau was detained in Germany at the request of the Belarusian side. After a while, he was released from custody, but steps were taken to prevent him from hiding from law enforcement agencies.
