Belarusian ruble down as dollar and euro up by 6%

The Belarusian ruble has been in a free fall for three consecutive days. This is due to the collapse of the market in Russia, which happened after the introduction of new US sanctions.

Since Monday, Belarusian ruble has fallen 5% against the dollar, which rose by almost 6%, and the euro — by more than 6.6%.

The euro reached the rate of 2.5580 Belarusian rubles, which is an historical maximum. Last time this maximum changed in February 2016. The euro rate then was 2.4956 BYN.

The dollar’s exchange rate has increased by 0.0440 rubles (2.17%) and amounted to 2.0698 BYN.

For its exchange rate formation, the National Bank of Belarus uses the mechanism of linking the ruble exchange rate to a basket of currencies, in which the share of the Russian ruble is 50%, the US dollar and the euro — 30 and 20%. In other words, the rate is formed on the basis of demand and supply.
