Belarusian police detain activists all across the country

On Sunday evening, Minsk police detained activists Maksim Vinyarski, Andrey Voynich, Vital Tryhubau and even a taxi driver who was taking them home.

Earlier, the trio showed up at the picket during which the signatures for Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya‘s presidency were collected.

The activists might have been taken to Savetski district police department. Their mobile phones are unavailable. However, Vital Tryhubau managed to post a video of the detention on Facebook:

A few hours before, the policemen rounded up Dzyanis Urbanovich, the leader of the youth organisation Young Front, at the picket in the centre of the Belarusian capital.

On May 31, over 30 persons, including members of Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s initiative group and civil activists, were detained or prevented from taking part in pre-election pickets, the human rights centre Viasna reports.
