Belarusian leader treats situation with certain bravado, says Lithuanian President

President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda said that Belarus was “relaxed” about the ‘coronavirus explosion’ and the situation in the country was much worse than reported by the authorities, reports Lithuanian Courier.

“We can’t trust this information, officially received from Belarus, as I believe that the Belarusian leader treats the situation with some bravado,” said Nauseda to reporters on April 1.

In his view, Belarus is not coping well enough with the crisis situation, while the real figures of patients may differ from those voiced.

“It’s quite possible that the true statistics are much worse, as we know about certain points on the Belarusian territory and deaths, recorded,” he said.

He supported the proposal of Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius about possible restrictions on air travel with Belarus. Nauseda believes that one should limit contacts “with the country that has no control over the situation when the risk is really felt”.

In Lithuania, according to the latest data, 537 cases of coronavirus have been recorded since the beginning of the epidemic, as well as 8 lethal outcomes. Seven patients have been discharged.
