"Belarusian language more likely to be heard in public places"


Braslau born Viktar Dudkevich has been working in the Hlubokaye crafts house for ten years. This great connoisseur of Belarusian ornament is engaged in wood carving, painting, as well as designing layout of old devices for wood treatment. The talented master does not forget to preserve the Belarusian language and culture.

“I wanted to combine the old times and today, so that they were together. If there is someone to teach the old skills, there is hope for the best,” said Viktar Dudkevich.

In an interview, the master said that through the transfer of folk skills to the new generations will be trabsfered also the knowledge of the native Belarusian language and culture, because Belarusians should go back to their national traditions.

“In Belarus, people already consume 14 liters of alcohol per capita, and 8 liters -is the threshold of degradation. It’s time to think. Many people are leaving and few remain. Villages are already extinct. Birth rates is also small. We must save the nation,” adds Viktar Dudkevich.
