Belarusian helicopter fights forest fires in Latvia

On the morning of July 26, the Mi-8 helicopter with 6 rescuers on board flew to Latvia at the request of our north-western neighbors. At 14:57 it landed at the airfield near the city of Tulsa.

Belarusian rescuers solved all border crossing issues, studied the area where fire extinguishing was taking place, determined water intake points and helicopter placement issues.

“Mi-8 is equipped with a special gear and can collect three tons of water almost from any water body,” the ministry said.

The aviation of the Belarusian Ministry of Emergency Situations has extensive experience in fighting fires in natural ecosystems under difficult conditions, the ministry’s website reports. They helped in the elimination of fires in Greece, Russia and Turkey.
