Belarusian book enters American top 100 books of century

The “Chernobyl Prayer” by Svetlana Alexievich has made it to the list of the most important books of our time, which journalists compiled based on the opinions of literature experts.A few months ago, “Vulture” turned to dozens of literary critics, reviewers and writers and their own authors with the request to name the 100 best works of fiction, poetry, memoirs and essays of the 21st century and eventually summed up the results.

“The goal was not to create a fixed library, but to make a vague selfie of the cultural moment,” the publication writes.

The final list included Svetlana Alexievich’s book “Chernobyl Prayer”.

“Chernobyl Prayer” was publisged in English in 2005 under the title “Voices from Chernobyl: Oral History of Nuclear Catastrophe”

In 2015, Alexievich won the Nobel Prize in Literature “for many-voiced creativity – a monument to suffering and courage in our times”.
