Belarusian citizen denied entry to Lithuania over Soviet symbols on car

A 21-year-old citizen of the Republic of Belarus driving a Peugeot 405 car intended to cross the Belarusian-Lithuanian border at Raigardas checkpoint (Druskininkai district) on Monday.

According to Lithuania’s border guard service, the man was not let pass as there were Soviet symbols on his car, i.e. a sticker in the shape of five-pointed star with hammer and sickle on the rear window. The border guards were ready to sanction the Belarusian’s entry on condition that he removes the sticker, but as the traveller refused to do so, he had to return to Belarus.

Public showing of both Soviet and Nazi symbols is banned by Lithuanian legal acts.
