Belarus human rights watchdog urges authorities to stop scare campaign over ‘armed militants’ case

The meeting with journalists was attended by Alyaksandra Barstok,Yulia Burshtanovich, Nasta Dashkevich, Alyaksei Kavalchuk and Nina Shydlouskaya. The conference was attended by the lawyer of the HRC “Viasna” .

The case of “mass disorder preparations” waslaunched by the KGB. On March 21 and 22, on these allegations intelligence agencies detained 26 people and conducted 29 searches. Nasta Dashkevich stated that all of the Young Front ‘list of 26’ — and that is at least six persons — are kept in jail on Valadarski street.

Valyantsin Stefanovich has appealed on behalf of all the Belarusian human rights activists to the authorities to stop the hysteria and intimidation of people via state media.

26 criminal cases

More and more people are arrested in the so-called case of the preparation for mass riots. It all started with the former members of the “White Legion”, with the representatives of “Young Front” Zmitser Dashkevich, Raman Vasilyeu, Uladzimir Yaromenak, Zmitser Kramyanetski. The list is constantly updated, the Viasna Human Rights Centre says it now has 26 people. Intimidation is supported by the media.
