Belarus to receive over $60 mln in compensation for dirty Russian oil

On February 25, Belarus and Russia signed a protocol on compensation for the supply of contaminated Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline. Belneftekhim unveiled the amount of oil, for which compensation may be received, reports TUT.by.

Deputy Chairman of Belneftekhim Uladzimir Sizau said that compensation for dirty oil supplies would be $15 per barrel. He specified that “we are talking about the amount by analogy with other parties involved in this story with dirty oil — these are counterparties in Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary.

The press secretary of Belneftekhim Alyaksandr Tsishchanka explained to RBC that it is about compensation for the 563 thousand tons of oil which the Mazyr refinery had time to process. Thus, Belarus may receive $61.6 million from Transneft. No other negotiations about any additional payments are being conducted.

The contaminated Russian oil found itself in the Druzhba pipeline and for some time paralyzed the petrochemical industry in April 2019. The oil refinery and the Belarusian operator of the Druzhba pipeline incurred certain expenses. The Belarusian authorities demanded that Moscow compensates the inconveniences. They managed to find a solution only last month.
