The authorities say that Belarusians will get cheap electricity thanks to the nuclear power plant in Astravets.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister Uladzimir Kukhareu said that the state plans to introduce a single electricity single tariff for the population.
Today, electricity tariffs depend on consumption, time of day (cheaper in the day than in the evening) and the type of cooker in the house (owners of electric one get free 100 kWh more than those with gas ones).
The official noted that the main incentive for the maximum use of electricity in Belarus will be its price.
“After the construction of the Belarusian NPP, we will have a sufficient amount of domestic electricity. We believe that we will be able to provide the population with cheap electricity in any volumes,” BelTA quotes Kukhareu.
Consumers who do not exceed 150 kWh will not feel any change. For those who spend more, electricity will probably be cheaper.
“We work with the Ministry of Energy on electricity tariffs, which will compete with heating tariffs. In the near future, we will have the tariffs that will be reduced for houses with electric heating,” the ONT quoted vice-premier.
Last year, Belarus approved an anti-inflation program, which provides for the elimination of subsidies for the population and a reduction in tariffs for enterprises by 2019 in order to make domestic products competitive abroad.
