Belarus started buying American oil

The first deliveries will start in a couple of days.

Belarus has started buying oil in the USA, Uladzimir Makey recently wrote on the page of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“I’m pleased to confirm the start of oil supplies from the USA to Belarus. It became possible after the agreements reached during the visit of the US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo to Belarus on February 1st, 2020,” noted the Foreign Minister.

The report notes that the purchase of U.S. oil is part of the government strategy to diversify sources (supply) and ensure the sustainable operation of the oil refining complex in Belarus.

On May 17th, the first tanker with 80 thousand tons of oil for Belarus will leave the United States. Arrival at the port of Klaipeda is scheduled for early June, while Belarus will get directly to the Naftan plant by rail, Belneftekhim press secretary Alyaksandr Tsishchanka told BelTA.

FM Makey notes that Belarus continues to cooperate with the U.S. developing economic ties between the countries.

“The Belarusian side will continue to act in the interest of strengthening partnership with the United States, which, in our opinion, is a contribution to the common efforts to overcome contradictions in the Euro-Atlantic and Eurasia,” writes Uladimir Makey.
