Kholmogorov asserts that the standard of living in Russia is incomparably higher than the Belarusian one and “even Russian poverty is often better than the Belarusian average income”.

Political scientist Pavel Svyatenkov believes that the entry of Belarus into Russia will be “a major national success.”
“Belarus is the result of Soviet national design, and if it is not reunited with Russia, Poland may try to make it dependent on itself, since both Ukraine and Belarus are representatives of the eastern outskirts of the medieval Polish Empire. But it is unlikely that the Belarusians want such a future for themselves,” he said.
The article was written as a response to the recent words of Alyaksandr Lukashenka that if economic problems are not solved, Belarus will be forced to join “some state”.
