Belarus ready for lowcosters at regional airports

The Ministry of Transport and Communications is interested in operation of low-cost airlines at regional airports, the head of department Alyaksei Auramenka said on March 28.

According to him, regional airports today meet all standards and over the past year almost all of them showed good dynamics, mainly due to charter flights, BelTA reports.

“At the same time, we are interested in low-cost transportation. We make proposals, we are open in this respect,” the Minister noted.

Earlier it was reported that the Ministry of Transport is studying the issue of creating a base airfield for low-cost companies in one of the regional centers of Belarus.

The national airport basically does not want to work with low-cost airlines. “We chose another direction. We still have the National Airport Minsk, it should evolve according to classical patterns. The low-cost company simply brings people to their destination and the rest is up to them. In Paris, for example, there are several airports, but low-cost companies fly to the one 90 kilometers from Paris, and not to the Charles de Gaulle airport, and then you have to get to Paris however you like,” said Dzmitry Melikyan, director of the National Airport in 2017.
