Belarus police seize $3 million methadone batch

Belarusian law enforcers have terminated the drug supply chain going into the EU.

Belarusian police detained members of an international criminal group involved into methadone transit through Belarus to Ukraine and the EU.

Special operation was held during the night near the village of Sidaravichy in the Mahiliou region. Law enforcement officers stopped a “Zhiguli” with 38-year-old previously convicted citizen of Ukraine and a 26-year-old unemployed man from Mahiliou. During the inspection of the car in a specially equipped place, investigators found and seized 22 methadone parcels with a total weight up to 9 kg (more than 200 thousand single doses of the drug) costing about $3 million.

The Interior Ministry claimed that the detainees were part of an international criminal group, which for a long time had been engaged in the delivery of drugs, including heroin, from Central Asia to the EU countries, Ukraine and Belarus.

According to the MOI, other members of this group have already come into the attention of operatives. Now security forces are looking for the mastermind of the criminal group.
