Belarus pensioner facing prison term for selling his tablets


An elderly resident of Mahiliou may get 8-year prison term for selling pills containing a psychoactive substance.

On September 11, he sold 40 tablets; one of the component being diazepam, the Belarusian Investigative Committee reports.

The investigators failed to give the name of the tablets.

Diazepam-containing tablets cost 1.7 rubles ($0.8), but they are available only on prescription.

Diazepam is a tranquilizer used to cure anxiety, insomnia, epileptic seizures, etc. However, regular self-administration may cause addiction.
