Belarus to bid for 2021 Ice Hockey World Championship

Official documents have been sent to the International Ice Hockey Federation. This was announced by Yaraslau Zauharodni, Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation Secretary General.

According to him, we will know who will be our main competitors at the next semi-annual congress. There are rumors that Finland which Zauharodni calls a very serious contender is planning to bid for the World Cup 2021.

“In case of failure, we will submit a bid to host the World Cup 2022. But the application for the World Cup-2021 will give us an advantage. We believe that either in 2021 or in 2022 we will get the forum,” said Zauharodni.

Minsk hosted Ice Hockey World Championship in 2014. Then the competition was won by Russia. Second and third place were taken by Finland and Sweden. Belarus reached the quarterfinals, where it lost to Sweden 3:2.
