'Belarus should work on foreign tourism' -- expert

Belarus has introduced a visa-free regime for citizens of 80 countries. The relevant decree was signed by the President on January 9.

Director of the national union of travel organizations Valyantsin Tsekhmeyster believes that this decision should be treated with restraint.

“We cannot say that our country is widely known in the world with people continuously flying here. We would like this to happen, but for now it takes a lot of effort to promote Belarus and acquire opportunities to receive foreign tourists. And these are the first steps in the removal of all sorts of bureaucratic obstacles”.

He said there is now being prepared a series of letters and appeals to the government, which contain further measures to remove obstacles for entry into our country.

“Sensible steps of our country can also serve as an example in relation to Belarus in terms of removal of visa costs, where we are outcasts in relation to tourism”.

The decree will come into force one month after its official publication.
