Belarus official discusses security issues with NATO countries’ military attaches


On January 29, Belarusian Security Council Secretary Andrey Raukou met with top brass of a number of Western countries, state-run news agency BelTA reports.

The meeting held at the initiative of the American side was attended by US Charge d’Affaires Jenifer Moore as well as military attaches of the United States, Germany, and Poland.

The participants discussed the aspects of the Belarusian-US cooperation, the issues of international and regional security in the context of the upcoming large-scale military exercises Defender Europe-20.

The foreign partners brought the Belarusian officials up to speed on the preparations for the maneuvers and reaffirmed their readiness to provide the maximum transparency of the drills.

As reported earlier, US State Secretary Mike Pompeo is to arrive in Minsk. The top US diplomat is expected to meet with President Alyaksandr Lukashenka and Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makey. According to the US Embassy in Minsk, the goal of the visit is ‘to underscore the US commitment to a sovereign, independent, stable, and prosperous Belarus’.
