Belarus, Latvia to host 2021 IIHF World Championship


Minsk and Riga will host the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in 2021.

The voting was held during the IIHF Congress in Cologne on Friday. In the second round, the joint bid of the two countries got 55 votes, while Finland’s bid received 52.

Both countries have already held world championships in the past. There was a hockey forum in Latvia in 2006. The final match was held at the “Arena-Riga” (seats 10,200 spectators). Belarus hosted the World Cup in 2014, the final match took place in the “Minsk-Arena” (15,086).

The 2021 IIHF World Championship final and semifinals are expected to take place in Minsk.
