The agreement on visa relaxation is still at the stage of discussion, but Belarus hopes that all issues will be tackled, Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makey said at today’s meeting with European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Johannes Hahn.

“We have discussed readmission questions. We still have a few issues, and I am sure we will find answers to the problems that are still on the agenda. As our relations develop further, we will come at the implementation of our agreements. At the moment, Belarusians are leading in the number of Schengen visas obtained.

Sooner or later, we will take off the remaining problems from the table. In addition, we are still ready to keep address issues of liberalisation of visa relations between Belarus and other countries,” TUT.BY quotes Makey.

According to him, there are still some sensitive issues in the field of human rights and the development of democratic processes in the region, but they are being constantly discussed by the two sides.

The Belarus-EU talks on visa facilitation have been in progress for several years. Two weeks ago, after the meeting with president Alyaksandr Lukashenka, Makey said that negotiating the agreement was close to the end, but there were still ‘some provisions’ to be discussed with European partners.

If the agreement on visa facilitation and readmission has been signed, cheaper Schengen visas (35 instead of 60) will be available.
