Belarus expects lower Russian gas price in 2016

There is substantial ground for reducing the price for Russian natural gas starting from January 1, 2016, Deputy Prime Minister Uladzimir Syamashka said on Wednesday.

“We believe that there are all reasons to say that as from 1 January the price for [Russian natural] gas should be considerably reduced. Although it is acceptable even now. To be precise, it is $142.37 per 1,000m3,” state-run news agency BelTA quotes Syamashka as saying.

The idea was discussed with the Russian government in the past, the deputy prime minister stressed.

The representatives of Belarus are expected to go to Moscow soon in order to negotiate the matter.

According to Uladzimir Syamashka, plans were made to agree the specific price and prepare the relevant documents by 21 December. Asked about terms of delivery of Russian oil to Belarus in 2016, the official said that the talks were still in progress.
