Belarus embassy to Ukraine pelted with paint. Provocation against volunteer fighters?

On March 29, unknown individuals pelted the building of the Belarusian embassy in Kyiv with white and red paints. However, there is no information about the incident embassy’s official page.

But they have already started to look for the perpetrators among Belarusian volunteer fighters in Donbas, ‘Tur’, one of the fighters of the tactical group ‘Belarus’, told Belsat.eu.

“Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) officials contacted us and said that someone stained paint Belarus’ Embassy in Kyiv with paint. Wegot there to check whether it was true – it was. We believe it to be the Belarusian authorities’ provocation against Belarusian volunteers who fought or are fighting for Ukraine in Donbas; they just want to put us in a negative light. Each of us is high-principled, holding such actions is not our style.”

In his opinion, the provocation might have been timed to the action of solidarity with volunteers which is to take place in Kyiv on April 1.

“It [incident] happened because we intend to protest against searching our homes in Belarus; the searches affect our families,” the fighter said.

The members of ‘The Union of Patriots’ also assume that the unpleasant incident was a provocative act.

“We consider this incident to be a small provocation made in the run-up of the rally in support of foreign volunteers. The provocateurs felt quite confident: when the National Guard attempted to detain them, they offered resistance and escaped.”

The Belarusian Embassy to Ukraine declined comment on the case.

“Let the perpetrators explain why they did it. They know better. No comment,” a representative of the embassy who refused to give his name told Belsat.

At the same time, the paint attack might have been the work of the Ukrainian anarchists. The ‘action of solidarity’ was staged after Belarusian antifascists Ilya Valavik and Vadzim Boyka, who were detained in the Belarusian capital on 22 March, the website of the anarchist movement in Ukraine reports.
