Belarus drops three positions in new human development ranking


According to the human development index, Belarus ranks 53rd in the list of countries. Until now, our country ranked 50th, data from the UN Development Program says.

Compared with the neighboring countries found in the human development rating, Belarus is ahead only of Ukraine, which is on the 74th position. Ahead of Belarus are Lithuania (34th place), Poland (35th place), Latvia (37th place) and Russia (52nd place).

When calculating the Human Development Index (HDI), three indicators are taken into account: life expectancy (longevity), the level of literacy of the country’s population and the standard of living of the population in terms of purchasing power.

Countries are divided into four broad categories based on their index: very high, high, medium and low human development. Belarus belongs to the group of countries with a very high development index, where there are 66 countries.

The first 10 places are occupied by the following countries:

  • Ireland
  • Switzerland
  • Hong Kong
  • Iceland
  • Germany
  • Sweden
  • Austria
  • Netherlands
  • Denmark
