Belarus down to 155th place in press freedom rating

BAJ representative has spoken on changes to the Law on Mass Media

The international organization ‘Reporters Without Borders’ has published a press freedom rating.

This year, Belarus took 155th place out of 180 countries, losing two positions compared to last year’s rating.

Our country was ahead of, for example, Brunei (up from 156th place to 153rd) and Congo (remained on 154th place).

The situation with freedom of the press can worsen if changes are made in the Law on Mass Media. Then, among other things, mandatory identification of Internet commentators will be introduced.

Barys Haretsky, deputy chairman of the Belarusian Association of Journalists, commented on the possible adoption of amendments to the law on the air of Belsat (see video above).
