Belarus authorities want to halve housing construction in Minsk

Deputy Prime Minister Anatoly Kalinin has announced the need to dramatically reduce the volume of housing construction in Minsk and regional centers to solve the problem of excessive concentration of people in large cities.

“Twenty percent live in Minsk and the regional centers. Half of housing is built in regional centers. We believe that it is necessary to at least halve the housing construction of multi-storey buildings in Minsk and regional centers. With this proposal, we will turn to the government and discuss these decisions,” he said in an interview with STV.

Accordingly, the government plans to develop satellite cities. “We need to increase the volume of construction of satellite cities by at least 4-5 times,” he stressed.

In this regard, Kalinin said there is a need to stop the construction of industrial production facilities in Minsk and regional centers, so that people can find employment in satellite cities.
