Belarus authorities: 774 detainees during Sunday’s protests

On 13 September, 774 persons were detained across the country for participating in protests throughout Belarus, the press service of the Interior Ministry reports.

More than 500 demonstrators were grabbed by the police in Minsk.

544 people facing trials were taken to detention centres, the ministry says. Click here to see the list of detainees from the human rights centre Viasna.

According to law enforcement agencies, 15,000 protesters showed up at the March of Heroes in Minsk. However, the number of participants might have reached 200,000, independent media estimate.

For over a month, post-election protests have been underway in the country; the major demands of Belarusians are Lukashenka’s resignation; holding a free and fair election; releasing political prisoners; putting an end to police violence as well as propaganda on state-run TV stations.
