‘Back in USSR’: Activists ptotest against pro-Putin artists on Ukrainian TV

A group of civic activists held an unusual protest action in Kyiv.

About ten young men dressed up as Soviet pioneers came to the Ukrainian Culture Ministry and brought a makeshift award ‘for the support of occupation culture in Ukraine’.

Some participants were holding posters “Thank the Culture Ministry for our Soviet future!” and “We want more pro-Russia performing artists!”

The protesters demanded the shows of Russian cultural workers supporting Putin and separatist ‘republics’ discontinue on Ukrainian TV channels.

In August 2015, Ukraine’s Security Service banned 16 Russian journalists and representatives of show business from entering the country, in particular Oleg Gazmanov, Iosif Kobzon, Valeria, Mikhail Boyarsky, Stas Piekha. However, later the Ministry of Culture announced the reduction of the black list.
