Austrian minister who danced with Putin coming to Belarus

Karin Kneissl, Austria’s Minister for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs will arrive in Belarus on January, 15.

“The Austrian minister is scheduled to meet with Belarusian counterpart Vladimir Makei to discuss issues on bilateral and multilateral agenda and to attend a number of other activities,” state-run news agency BelTA reports with reference to the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The top diplomat is also expected to attend a ceremony to inaugurate a new building of the Embassy of Austria in Belarus.

In May, Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz invited president Alyaksandr Lukashenka to visit Austria.

Last summer Karin Kneissl hit the world headlines when she invited Russian leader Vladimir Putin to her wedding and danced with him at the event. Later, however, the relations between Austria an Russia soured due to a spy case. On November 9, local media reported about exposing a Russian spy who was a colonel in the Austrian army. Amid the scandal, Kneissl canceled his visit to Russia scheduled for early December.
