Armenia seeks to halt deliveries of Belarusian weapons to Azerbaijan

Yerevan intends to talk Minsk out of selling weapons to Azerbaijan.

On June 11, Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev inspected Belarusian-made Polonez complexes taken onboard by the Azerbaijani army.

In turn, the Armenian side regrets that Belarus is selling arms to Baku that is in conflict with them taking into account that the both countries are the members of the CSTO.

The Polonez missile systems are the result of military-technical cooperation between Belarus and China. The installation with eight rockets is based on the chassis of the Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant. Missiles have individual guidance, with a range of up to 200 km and accuracy of up to 1.7 m. The warhead power is 50 kg in the TNT equivalent.

“We expect that Belarus will no longer sell arms to Azerbaijan. We do not want weapons being sold by Belarus to be in the hands of Azerbaijan that is making extensive military plans, including to get to Yerevan,” Armenia’s National Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan told journalists.

According to him, the new government is working for it.

“Prime Minister Nicol Pashinyan, our Foreign Minister, me, all our government officials are discussing the issue with Belarusian colleagues. We are set to strain for Belarus’ withdrawal from selling weapons to Baku – and we hope we succeed after a while,” Grigoryan said.

Moreover, the Armenian side does not rule out that they will start buying Belarusian military productions themselves.
