Archbishop Kandrusevich criticizes Lukashenka's decree on free IVF

According to Archbishop Kandrusevich, this “contradicts the moral teachings of the catholic church”.

The address to the believers, published at catholic.by, says that during the epidemic of coronavirus “there is another threat to human life”.

“The Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus of May 18th, 2020 “On social support for certain categories of citizens”, in particular, provides for the first free attempt of IVF (in vitro fertilization). This means that it is planned to finance the sinful procedure, which contradicts the Holy Scriptures and the moral teachings of the Church, via the taxes of believers,” says the Archbishop.

The Church in Belarus has consistently criticized the IVF procedure, abortion, and surrogate motherhood.

In addition, Kandrusevich notes that he is also concerned about the resolution of the Ministry of Health of Belarus “On application of assisted reproductive technologies,” published on May 11th, 2020, which covers the expansion of the artificial insemination.
