Antitrust Ministry wants to produce smartphones in Belarus


Belarusian Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade has updated the list of products aimed for import substitution in Belarus. It has a lot of technological devices like “smart phones and other mobile devices.” Smartphones in the document were placed in the category of goods that are not made in Belarus.

The Ministry notes that the market needs “smart phones with high-speed internet, mail, powerful operating system, applications that let you edit photos, text documents.”

Smartphones have already appeared on the import substitution list for 2016. In 2017, they were removed, and in 2018 — added again to the list.

The document also has information about tablets, laptops, car audio systems, dash cams, GPS-navigators, DVD-drives, USB-memory cards, fax machines, digital cameras, computer mice, and more.

In total, there are 219 products on the list.
