Andrzej Duda: 'Belsat' must carry on with its mission

Polish President Andrzej Duda

In an interview with ‘Gazeta Polska Codziennie’ the Polish president commented on the news that operations of our channel may be limited.

Reporters asked Andrzej Duda to comment on the media declared plans of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to cut “Belsat” subsidies by 2/3. The Head of Poland was also told the words of the Belarusian intellectuals and politicians who view the possible closure of “Belsat” as “demoralizing tragedy”.

“This decision is a blow for the Belarusian patriots exciting national and civil consciousness of their countrymen,”  wrote representatives of the Belarusian intelligentsia together with politicians in a letter to the Polish authorities.

“Is this act — similar to a goodwill gesture to Alyaksandr Lukashenka — a good solution? What is behind this?” journalists of Gazeta Polska Codziennie asked President Duda.

“This is a decision of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, who has conducted his own autonomous policy. I would not like to interfere with his area. It is important for me that the mission, carried out by “Belsat” earlier, continued. Foreign Minister has assured me that this will happen through greater intensification of the ‘TVP Polonia’ activities. I also hope that the head of Polish diplomacy will dispel fears related to “Belsat”, said Andrzej Duda.
