Opposition leader fined 9 mln rubles for 'National Flag Rally'

Judge Viktoryia Shabunia has found Anatol Lyabedzka, the chairman of the United Civic Party of Belarus, guilty of participating in an unsanctioned meeting, which was held in Minsk. Under the slogan “Return power to the people” And “No false elections” people marched from Svabody Square along Independence Avenue to Yakub Kolas Square.

As the politician said in a comment to Belsat, the opposition leader had lost the lawsuit before it began.

“The decisions are written by the judge in advance. And it’s rather aimed at the journalists and representatives of diplomatic missions. I do not call these people judges, they are political killers. In October, the Central Rayon Court of Minsk has become almost like a workplace for me. This is the third trial and the fourth case. They have fined me about 20 million rubles. Probably, the treasury is empty.”

Anatol Lyabedzka was tried by judge Viktoryia Shabunia who was included in the list of people banned from entering the EU.

“I am being tried because I have such a name, Anatol Lyabedzka, and because I do not want to fit into the system, I want to change it. We already had a precedent with Lukashenka, who did not buckle up. Citizen Lukashenka may not follow the Constitution, but the citizen Lyabedzka has to do it,” said the politician.

Today will also be held trials of the activist Vyachaslaju Siuchyk for the rally from October and writer Adam Hlobus for taking part in a post-election rally on October 11.
