Almost 22K HIV positive people live in Belarus


In January-September 2019, 1,591 new cases of HIV infection were registered in Belarus — 16.81 per 100 thousand people, the Republican Center of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Public Health reports.

The share of intravenous HIV transmission in the overall statistics of morbidity this year amounted to 17.3%, while sexual transmission to 81%.

Compared to the nine months of 2019, the HIV incidence rate in Belarus has decreased by 9.7%.

Overall, 21,566 HIV-positive people were registered in the country on October 1 (excluding those who left the country). The largest number of HIV-positive people reside in the Homiel region – 7,960, the smallest in Hrodna region – 921. There are 4,820 such people in Minsk.
