Zhukouski wife required to file income statement for 10 years

Homiel freelance journalist Kastus Zhukouski has been annually filing his income tax declaration since 2008. It was a requirement from the local tax office. Now the tax authorities are also interested in his wife.

In 2008, Kastus Zhukouski was fined by court for receiving money as a wedding gift from relatives.

“There were many guests at the wedding, including relatives from Ukraine. I was given a penalty for their gifts — the authorities said I had to register the money as aid from abroad. It means that I had to install a separate basket for gifts from the Ukrainians at the wedding,” said Zhukouski.

The tax authorities calculated the income of his wife for the last ten years and found that there was the excess of expenditure over income in 2006.

“At that time, my wife was on maternity leave, we had a joint household then and now. The tax service found an excess of 373 rubles, it is more than 3.7 million of old money. This is not a large sum, and we will explain, of course, where it originated. We are constantly under pressure and control, they would not leave us alone,” added the journalist.
