Actors protesting against Russian mass culture stranglehold in Ukraine

The actors of the Ivano-Frankivsk Drama Theatre have read out poems and passages of famous Russian writers and poets to show their protest against promoting and airing low-quality Russian pop music, TV shows and soaps in Ukraine.

These extracts are as relevant as ever in present-day Ukraine, the actors believe.

“At that time, when the best sons of our nation are dying at the hands of Russian aggressors, we are strongly protesting against the presence of the so-called low-grade theater groups in the territory of Ukraine, against the development of the Russian film industry, against the presence of tenth-rate pop music on our media scene. And we side with our colleagues’ on the issue of imposing a Ban on Russia’s content, the content of the aggressor country, in the mediaspace of Ukraine,” theatre director Rostislav Derzhypilski said in a video address.
