Activist Hanna Smilevich fined for collecting signatures in support of Belarusian language


The head of the “BPF Youth” Hanna Smilevich has been fined 15 base units (367.5 BYN) for collecting signatures in support of the Belarusian language on February 21, 2018. The court found that the girl violated the law on mass events.

“The most interesting thing is that they did not invite her to the hearing, they simply sent her the court decision,” the BPF Youth group in Facebook said.

In late February, Zmitser Dashkevich initiated the collection of signatures for the Belarusianization of education and the creation of a Belarusian-language university. During the event, about 2,000 signatures were collected. Dashkevich transferred them to the Ministry of Education. A number of participants of the event were later brought to administrative responsibility under Art. 23.34 of the Administrative Code (violation of the law on public events).

Hanna Smilevich also participated in the collection of signatures she also had a protocol drafted on her.
