Volha Bandarenka: Denial will be appealed in court

Volha Bandarenka, the wife of the political prisoner, intends to appeal the special commission’s decision in court. The interregional medical and rehabilitation commission of experts examined Zmitser’s medical records and concluded that he did not have a disability, Volha Bandarenka told journalists on April 5, 2012 after visiting Mahiliou penal colony №15 where her husband serves his sentence.

«All authorities concerned have denied his disabled status, and we are going to solve the problem with the lawyer: we might well take legal steps. Now it is necessary to find out Zmitser’s attitude to it, then we will take a decision,» Volha Bandarenka stated.

According to her, the imprisoned politician had a MRI scan but its results have not been known yet.

Volha Bandarenka handed over necessary medicines to her husband and had a talk to prison doctors. «According to them his health is better but he is still in the medical unit suffering from urarthritis.» In addition, Zmitser Bandarenka turns out to have arthroses and severe pains, his wife said.

Zmitser Bandarenka, a coordinator of European Belarus civil campaign and Andrey Sannikau’s election agent, was arrested on December 19, 2010, right after the demonstration against election fraud and later sentenced to two years of imprisonment in a minimum security penal colony. Soon after the opposition activist’s arrest his chronic illnesses flared up. His wife informed that Bandarenka had asked for medical help in February, 2011. He had not received it until June 22nd. In July, 2011 the political prisoner underwent a spine operation in Minsk clinical hospital No.5
