78% of Russians in favor of visa regime with Belarus -- survey


On February 16, the Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) has released  the survey results of  Russians’ view on Belarus,  energy resources discounts and preservation of a visa-free regime.

The survey, which was conducted by VCIOM on 8-9 February 2017, involved 1,200 respondents.

The method they used involved telephone interview of a random sample of fixed and mobile phone numbers. Selection was based on a list of phone numbers that opetrate in Russia. According to VCIOM, with a probability of 95% of the results of the survey error does not exceed 3.5%.

Oil and gas

More than half of Russians (56%) do not consider it necessary to make allowances for the oil and gas to allied states, even in exchange for support on their side; on the contrary, 38% of the Russian population think it should be otherwise. Meanwhile, young people from 18 to 24 years old and people with high income are major supporters of preferential sales with 52% and 50%, respectively.

Border and visa

Due to the fact that Belarus has introduced visa-free entry for citizens of 80 countries, more than three quarters of Russians (78%) were in favor of reinstating the visa regime with the neighbor. According to VCIOM, only 16% of respondents were in favor of preserving the border between Belarus and Russia only as a formality.

However, the issue of introduction of visa regime between Belarus and Russia is not even considered. It is reported with reference to rbc.ru and ria.ru. This was announced by Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov.
